TrendProtect™ Quick Start Guide

Version 1.2

This Quick Start Guide helps you start using TrendProtect to avoid unwanted content and hidden threats while browsing the Internet.

  1. After downloading and installing TrendProtect , look for the TrendProtect button in your browser's "toolbar area." If you do not see the button, close all browser windows and then open the browser again. If the TrendProtect button still does not appear, please consult the Help/FAQ section for further advice.

  2. TrendProtect rates the page you are currently viewing using the following ratings:

    •    Safe: The page is safe to visit and does not contain unwanted content. All local pages are considered safe.
    •    Dangerous: The page has been found to contain hidden malicious software or signs of involvement in "phishing," a kind of fraud in which fake Web pages mimic legitimate sites to gather sensitive personal information.
    •    Undesirable Content: The page may contain unwanted content. To specify content categories as undesirable, click Options in the TrendProtect menu.
    •    Trusted: You have identified the page as "trusted." To modify your list of trusted pages, click Options in the TrendProtect menu.
    •    Suspicious: The page may contain unwanted content, malicious software, or may be involved in phishing. Use caution when viewing the page.

Note: To protect users, TrendProtect tags pages that have not been tested by Trend Micro, including pages that may be safe, as Suspicious.

    •    No Connection: TrendProtect is unable to connect to rating servers and provide a rating for the page. Check your Internet connection or your proxy settings.
    •    Untested: The page could not be tested because it was requested using an unsupported protocol. TrendProtect can test only HTTP and HTTPS pages.
  3. In addition to rating the page you have open, TrendProtect also rates Web pages listed in Google, MSN, and Yahoo search results. It tags each Web page with an advisory icon and highlights the link to that Web page. Move your mouse over the advisory icon to display a page advisory, which has additional information about the rated Web page.

  4. To configure TrendProtect, click the TrendProtect button and select Options. In the Options dialog, you can set viewing options, maintain a list of trusted pages, specify the content categories that TrendProtect considers undesirable, and configure Internet connection settings.

TrendProtect is simple to set up and easy to use. Without much effort, you can use it browse the Web more safely and help keep your computer secure. If you have questions about TrendProtect or encounter problems while using it, please visit the Help/FAQ page .
