Remote File Lock Quick Start Guide
Version 3.1
Remote File Lock provides a password-protected vault that serves as secure storage for your sensitive files. It works with Report Stolen, an online service where you can report the theft or loss of your computer. When you report your computer lost or stolen, Remote File Lock automatically seals the vault, preventing even users with the correct password from accessing your files.
Installing Remote File Lock
Remote File Lock is installed with Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. If you have removed it or you wish to upgrade to the latest version, do the following:
- Click the Pro Services button to open the Pro Services console.
- On the console, ensure that Overview is selected.
- Under Manage Service Components, click Install new services and updates.
- Install Remote File Lock if it is listed. It will not be listed if you already have the latest version installed.
Initializing Remote File Lock
To prepare the vault, Remote File Lock needs to initialize. During initialization, it prompts you for a computer description, an email address, and a password. This information lets you control access to the vault.
Keep this information separate from your computer, in a place that you can access later. You might need them later as shown in the table below.
| Information | Purpose |
| Computer description |

| Email address |

Unlocking the Vault
You need to unlock the vault after your computer returns from Locked, Stand by, Hibernate, or Idle mode.
As a protective measure, Remote File Lock connects to remote servers regularly to check whether the computer has been reported lost or stolen, and locks the vault if it is unable to complete the check. While you are offline, you need to provide the password every time you access the vault.
To unlock the vault, right-click the desktop icon and click Unlock Vault, and then provide your password.
Sealing the Vault
If your computer is lost or stolen, seal the vault immediately through the Report Stolen service. To access the service, you need the email address and the password you provided during initialization. Once the vault is sealed, it cannot be accessed unless the computer is reported found.
