Remote File Lock Overview
Version 3.1
Remote File Lock provides a password-protected vault for storing sensitive files securely. You can use the "Report Stolen" online service to report the theft or loss of your computer and remotely seal the vault. Once sealed, the vault completely blocks access to the files within, even if someone knows the correct password.
Using Remote File Lock
To access the vault, just double-click the Remote File Lock icon on your desktop.
By keeping sensitive files inside the vault, you can prevent anyone from opening them after suffering the theft or loss of your computer. The vault keeps its current state (locked or unlocked) when your computer restarts. However, it locks automatically if your computer disconnects from the Internet, or when it comes back from the Locked, Stand By, Hibernate, or Idle mode. To unlock the vault, just provide the password you selected during initialization.
Remote File Lock also regularly checks to see if you have reported the computer as lost or stolen. Once you access the Report Stolen service, the vault seals automatically.
