About Trend Micro Remote File Lock ======================================================================== Remote File Lock, a service component that comes with Trend Micro Internet Security Pro, provides a password-protected vault where you can keep sensitive files secure. Should you lose your computer, just access the online Report Stolen service to seal the vault. 2. What's New ======================================================================== Remote File Lock version 3.1 includes the following new features and enhancements: a. Support for Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This version of Remote File Lock works after installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista. b. Management through the Pro Services console ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To begin using Remote File Lock, simply initialize it through the Pro Services console. You can also upgrade, uninstall, and reinstall the software through the console. c. Organize sensitive files ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now you can sort your sensitive files into folders. Simply copy your folders or create them in the vault. d. Change password locally ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can change your password by right-clicking the Remote File Lock vault icon and clicking the "Change Password" option. e. Retrieve password locally ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can retrieve your password by right-clicking the Remote File Lock vault icon and clicking the "Retrieve Password" option. f. Change the vault icon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can use another icon to "hide" the Remote File Lock vault by selecting "Change Vault Icon" after right-clicking the vault icon. g. Prevent others from guessing your password ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To prevent others from guessing your password, Remote File Lock automatically seals the vault after five successive attempts to unlock the vault using the wrong password. You must then restart the computer to unlock the vault. h. Improved Report Stolen service ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Report Stolen service now has a more comprehensive and intuitive interface, which you can access here: http://www.trendsecure.com/commonapi/redirect.php?a=RN&l=en-US 3. Documentation Set ======================================================================== a. This README.txt file contains basic installation and configuration instructions, a list of known issues, and contact information. b. System Requirements ======================================================================== You can install Remote File Lock after successfully installing Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. 5. Installation ======================================================================== Installing Trend Micro Internet Security Pro automatically installs Remote File Lock as well. If you have removed the service or want to upgrade to the latest version, please follow the steps below: a. Open Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and click the "Pro Services" button. b. Select "Overview" when the Pro Services console opens. c. Under "Manage Service Components," click "Install new services and updates," and then select Remote File Lock. 6. Post-installation Configuration ======================================================================== You can initialize Remote File Lock after installing Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. Note: To initialize Remote File Lock, you must first activate Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. You must connect your computer with the Internet to initialize Remote File Lock. To initialize Remote File Lock: a. Open the main console of Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. b. Click "Pro Services" to launch the Pro Services console. c. Click the link on this message: "Some service components have not initialized. Click here to initialize." d. Select "Remote File Lock" from the list of services. e. Click "Initialize" and wait for the "Remote File Lock Initial Setup" screen to open. f. Provide the requested information. Note: Make sure to enter the correct email address. You cannot modify this address later. g. Click "Initialize." h. Click "Close" to shut the initial setup screen. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== This release has the following known issues: a. You cannot modify the email address provided when initializing the software. To change the email address, you must reinstall Remote File Lock. b. Remote File Lock treats files that you delete or move out of the vault as "copied" files, and retains a copy of each one in the vault. c. The options that appear when you right-click a file in the vault may not match the options shown when you right-click a file outside the vault. d. You cannot copy shortcuts into the vault. e. You will see fewer properties displayed when hovering your mouse cursor over files or folders in the vault than you would for files outside the vault. f. Only the person who installed Remote File Lock can use this service component. Anyone logging into Windows using a different account cannot access the vault. 8. After the first year, you must renew Maintenance on an annual basis at Trend Micro's then-current Maintenance fees.
