About Trend Micro Transaction Protector ======================================================================== Transaction Protector, a service component that comes with Trend Micro Internet Security Pro, helps safeguard your online transactions with the following features: * Keystroke Encryption hides what you type from keyloggers. * Wi-Fi Advisor checks the safety of wireless networks. * Site Inspector determines if the current page you have open might pose a risk. Transaction Protector lets you access these features through a toolbar available on your Web browser. 2. What's New ======================================================================== Version 1.1 of Transaction Protector has resolved some problems in the previous release and now features better performance, including an improved "Wireless LAN API" installation process. It also supports the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and Microsoft Windows Vista (Service Pack 1). 3. Documentation Set ======================================================================== a. This README.txt file contains basic installation and configuration instructions, a list of known issues, and contact information. b. System Requirements ======================================================================== Before installing Transaction Protector, you must first successfully install the following software on your computer. a. Trend Micro Internet Security Pro b. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) - OR - Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 c. "Wireless LAN API" update for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), available here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918997 - OR - Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) 5. Installation ======================================================================== Installing Trend Micro Internet Security Pro automatically installs Transaction Protector as well. If you have removed the service or want to upgrade to the latest version, please follow the steps below: a. Open Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and click the "Pro Services" button. b. Select "Overview" when the Pro Services console opens. c. Under "Manage Service Components," click "Install new services and updates," and then select Transaction Protector. 6. Post-installation Configuration ======================================================================== Transaction Protector requires no post-installation configuration. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== This release has the following known issues: a. If you have enabled the Keystroke Encryption (kdfmgr.exe) feature, opening Internet Explorer might make the Windows User Access Control system ask for your credentials again. Neglecting to provide your credentials in this case triggers an error message. b. Transaction Protector currently does not support multiple wireless network cards. c. Transaction Protector uses the Microsoft Windows Wireless LAN API. If your wireless network relies on other software to make or manage connections, then the wireless network functions of Transaction Protector will not work. d. Transaction Protector cannot detect the status of a wireless network card switched off with a driver utility (typically the software came with the card or your computer) or a hardware switch. As a result, Transaction Protector may appear fully functional even when unable to use the Wi-Fi Advisor. e. When connecting to a wireless network not in the preferred networks list, Transaction Protector uses a temporary profile. This temporary profile disappears from the Windows wireless network manager once you disconnect from the network. However, restarting your computer while connected to the wireless network adds the network to the Windows wireless network manager list. f. Transaction Protector requires the "Wireless LAN API" update for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), which you can download from here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918997 Note: Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Microsoft Windows XP Service already includes the Wireless LAN API update. g. If you hide or disable the Transaction Protector toolbar using "Tools > Toolbar" or "View > Toolbar" in Internet Explorer right after installation, the toolbar will appear again when you restart Internet Explorer. Restarting your computer solves this problem. h. Disabling your wireless card automatically stops Transaction Protector from finding and checking wireless networks. If connecting your computer to a network cable automatically shuts down the wireless card, then Transaction Protector will also close at that time. i. Keystroke Encryption does not work with Remote Desktop and VMware, and cannot protect what you type while using them. Keystroke Encryption also may not work with similar virtualization or remote access applications. j. Keystroke Encryption does not provide full support for these keyboard layouts: * Chinese (simplified) * Chinese (traditional) If using these keyboard layouts, Keystroke Encryption typically can only protect passwords. Note: If you have trouble typing Chinese characters with Keystroke Encryption enabled, trying changing your keyboard layout through the Regional and Language Options of the Windows Control Panel. k. You must log into Windows XP with Administrator credentials to enable Keystroke Encryption. Once enabled by someone with Administrator privileges, Keystroke Encryption becomes available to anyone using the computer. You can also run Internet Explorer as an Administrator and then enable Keystroke Encryption. 8.
